A Conversation

2015
3 photographs, 1 video of non-scripted conversation. 6 minutes.

While a middle-aged couple focuses on the strange task of mending an onion together, their conversation takes off to reminiscing their past lives in another country. Mr. Kim and Mrs. Shin immigrated to Canada from South Korea at the peak of South Korea’s economic crisis in the 90s. Mr. Kim used to be an entrepreneur who ran a wholesale textile, while Mrs. Shin had been a stay-home mother. After their immigration, they opened a small business, and the nature of their relationship expanded dramatically from that of the family into co-workers and business partners.
