Sustained (Temporary) Condition is an assemblage of everyday objects that had once occupied the world of transient residents of Tiohti:áke/ Mooniynag/ Montréal area during the COVID-19 pandemic. The global crisis has caused ideas on urban living and migration across national and provincial borders to be re-assessed. This public installation work paints a portrait of the temporary nature of current living conditions by looking at the objects that the urban residents once owned but are not precious enough for them to keep. As students' and workers' casual employment and geographical mobility become commonplace, such temporary conditions are being extended to anticipate a future that comes with permanence and stability for oneself and their community. The phenomena result in a lifestyle consisting of consumer objects made to be temporary. The work iterates these objects' states of being by occupying a public square of Place des Festivals as a remembrance and reminder of migrant communities that moved away from one place to another, both for forced and voluntary reasons.
